The British Education Research Association aims to sustain and promote a vital research culture in education. It produces a journal, the British Educational Research Journal, organises an annual conference and produces other support material for members.
The Learning and Teaching Support Network offers expertise, advice and information on teaching and learning for academic staff working in Higher Education Institutions. One of its 24 subject centres is ESCalate, which is the centre for those working in Education departments. Whilst not solely concerned with supporting those who work in initial teacher education for the compulsory sector, their web site does contain useful information and links for those teaching on such courses.
The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service is the central organisation that processes applications for full-time undergraduate courses at UK universities and colleges. AS well as processing applications for places they are also involved in research, consultancy, publication and other advisory activities to enable all parties to make the most of the system. They aim to become the ‘one-stop shop’ where anyone interested in access to higher education can obtain the necessary service or information.
The Universities Council for the Education of Teachers acts as a national forum for the discussion of matters relating to the education of teachers and to the study of education in the university sector and contributes to the formulation of policy in these fields. Its members are UK universities involved in teacher education, and a number of colleges of higher education in the university sector.
