European Society for Research in Mathematics Education
The European Society for Research in Mathematics Education acts a body providing opportunities for those interested in research into mathematics education to communicate, co-operate and collaborate across Europe. Their main activity is a biannual conference, CERME.
International Commission on Mathematical Instruction
The International Commission on Mathematical Instruction exists to further the sound development of mathematical education at all levels, and to secure public appreciation of its importance. It organises the International Congress on Mathematical Education.
International Congress on Mathematical Education
The International Congress on Mathematical Education is held every four years and ICME-10 will be in Denmark in July 2004. There are also several affiliated study groups: see below.
International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education
The International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education is affiliated as a subgroup to ICMI. It has an annual conference and its goals are to promote international contacts and the exchange of information in the psychology of mathematics education, promote research in this area and to deepen understanding into the psychological aspects of teaching and learning mathematics.
International Study Group on the Relations between the History and Pedagogy of Mathematics
The International Study Group on the Relations between the History and Pedagogy of Mathematics is also a study group affiliated to ICMI.
International Organisation of Women and Mathematics Education
Yet another ICMI affiliated Study Group is The International Organisation of Women and Mathematics Education. This is an international network of individuals and groups who share a commitment to achieving equity in education and who are interested in the links between gender and the teaching and learning of mathematics.
